The Logitech USB Desktop Microphone is a fantastic choice for students or anyone on a smaller budget, as its price tag puts this microphone in the very bottom percentage in terms of price. This product promises ease of use and a ‘straight out of the box’ experience with very minimal set up time. Unlike more complex (and therefore more expensive) USB microphones that are available on the market, the Logitech USB Desktop Microphone does not offer multiple sound recording systems or switchable frequencies. This straight-forward system will record voice cleanly and efficiently with no extra unnecessary fluff.
The design of this USB microphone includes a noise reduction system to cut out background interference and record in a clean, listenable manner. This feature makes this microphone especially suited to recording two-way conversations via Skype. The microphone also pivots off a weighted base, to direct the microphone closer to the source of sounds and ensure sound detail is picked up. For convenience and ease of use, the microphone also includes a mute switch and a light to indicate when the microphone is switched on.
Despite its reasonable price, this microphone still comes with a two year warrantee. It is also one of the lightest USB microphones available, meaning that it can easily be transported along with a personal laptop.
The Logitech USB Desktop Microphone has received mainly positive reviews, and a very large number of five star reviews. These tend to focus on value for money and the fact that this microphone is great quality on a budget. Many of the reviewers are students who have used the microphone to record interviews for use in their papers – all these reviewers say that this microphone is ideally suited to this purpose. Furthermore, almost all reviewers have said that the microphone is very reliable and continues to work consistently.
A small number of reviews have commented that the microphone looks and feels slightly flimsy, but most go on to add that this is compensated for by the recording quality and value for money of the product. Other reviewers have pointed out that although the recording quality is good, the volume of the final recording can sometimes be slightly low.
